Red Nichols Brown Horsehide Leather Holster For Colt 1911 Government 5"

This product is sold out

Beautiful Red Nichols Beautiful Model G1955 "To Catch A Thief", Avenger style from his new Old School Line. Holster fits a Colt Government 1911 and is right draw. Holster is brown American horsehide and Slots fit a belt up to 1 1/2".

Holsters are inspired by Paris Theodore of Seventrees NYC of the 1960's. Paris worked out of his shop in the Garment District in N.Y. creating holsters and weapons for the FBI, CIA and other covert operations.

It is important to note these are NOT copies of Paris Theodore's old designs.  Updates include features that did not exist in his time, including the slide guard, a full welt that includes 'twister', and the Avenger and Pancake styles that were created after him.  Paris also had a particular obsession with cutting his holsters from a single piece of leather, while Nichols' designs use multiple parts for the benefits that accrue.
Yet the results indeed are intended to evoke his work.
Paris used a moulding press, just as all makers do today.  Red does not use a press -- all the moulding is impressed with hand tools (p.s. this process is not called 'boning', which instead is slicking the inside).  Speaking of which, the interior of each Nichols holster is as smooth as the outside and no lining is required.
Horsehide* is a premium material that has been called 'the Kydex of leather' because it is thin yet rigid.  But unlike Kydex it is a natural, breathable material and is made rigid using a low-heat, hot-air method (while Kydex softens with heat).  In addition to these advantages over common cowhide, horsehide has a very dense grain that creates the handsome finish you see here.
Available only in unlined horsehide, hand-detailed moulding, in black and brown (Night & Day is available only in plain natural finish) in the following models.  Generally, black thread will be used on all three leather colors:

* Rarely does a firearm or firearms related product catch my attention. After 25+ years in law enforcement, and 9 years of consulting, I find myself cringing when I hear the words "I want you to test this." Unless something catches my attention, I respectfully decline. This holster from Red Nichols is one of those exceptions. Mr. Nichols is truly a legend when it comes to holster designs (please look him up). To me, the holster and belt are as important as the firearm, and I do not cut corners or compromise in this area. The more I wear this holster, the more I fall in love with it. Thanks again to Jason for pointing me in the right direction and to Red for reintroducing these great designs. ♠️🛠

* Please note, horsehide is an 'end of life' material that is a byproduct of recycling an expired animal.  Horses are neither raised nor slaughtered for their hides.
